Com era d'esperar, no ens han publicat la carta a The Economist
Dear Editor,
Although I am a regular reader of The Economist, if its news is as trustworthy as the information that recently appears about Catalonia in this magazine, I will have to look for another one to have a real idea about what is happening in the world. The correspondent of the Economist in Spain (or should we say in Madrid?) perhaps spends the afternoons enjoying with his amigos the wild event of the corridas in the Plaza de Las Ventas. I cannot imagine any other reason why he only presents the partisan view of the toros-lobby and he omits that the majority of the Catalan people (and even probably of the Spanish people) are against this inhuman activity not due to nationalistic reasons but due to respect for animals and an elementary sense of dignity. I do not know if a lot of people in the UK desire to appear proudly before the world as the country of fox hunting, but in our case we don’t like to be assimilated with the anachronism of a cruel event that on the other hand was near extinction in Catalonia. If someone wishes to enjoy this bloody fiesta, he can try to organize a public sacrifice of fighting bulls in any park of, for instance, Oxford, Karlsruhe or Upsala. Surely he will end up doing time in a cell of the county gaol and reflecting on the level of tolerance of the civilized peoples.
Sincerely,
